Fri Oct 30 – Sun Nov 1 · HavAnnA Cafe · Chokoloskee Island, FL
1956: the causeway opens and station wagons roll down to the Glades. It's the golden age of Florida travel, with the Cold War humming in the background. There's a Nike missile site out in the Everglades, radar watching from Marco Island, and the Lavender Scare up in Washington. This Halloween we're asking one question: what if the fallout actually happened?

The story
Chokoloskee got its causeway in 1956. The same decade the Nike missiles went into the Everglades, the radar went up on Marco Island, and Washington purged thousands of gay men and women from government work in what became known as the Lavender Scare.
Bay of Pigs: The Fallout plays all of it as a Halloween weekend: the tourists arrive, the sirens go off, and the party keeps going in the glow. Gays in the Glades is the Boys of Chokoloskee's event series, and this is its flagship weekend.
Make it a weekend
Parkway Motel & Marina is Chokoloskee's oldest fishing camp, steps from the cafe: rooms, cottages, glamping, overnight dockage, live bait, bike trails and the closest channels to the Gulf. Book early; the island is small.
